Seit zwei, drei Tagen zirpen die Zikaden vor sich hin, was einem beim einschlafen mit offenem Fenster am ehesten auffällt. Beim Rasen und Gräser schneiden hatte ich einige leere Larvenhüllen dabei, die bestimmt 3-4cm groß sind.

The cicadas have returned over the last few days. Loud enough that, with the window open, they’re hard to ignore. Around here, that’s usually a good sign that summer has arrived. Today while cutting the grass, I found several empty cicada shells, about 3–4 cm long.

セミの鳴き声を聞くと、夏が来たと感じる。夜は寝る前に特によく聞こえる。

Nice, small city! But way too hot today. Around 2 p.m. we returned home and made another stop for food in Matsumoto, this time for ramen.

In Takayama we visited the morning market and the old historical neighbourhood, Sanmachi Suji, with its many old buildings that have been turned into shops, cafés, restaurants and places to stay. But it was simply too warm to spend much time outside.

高山は小さいけど、いい町だった。朝市や三町筋を歩いたけど、暑すぎてあまり長く外にいられなかった。帰る途中、松本でラーメンを食べてから帰った。

Kamikōchi liegt in den Hida-Bergen der japanischen Alpen und ist aufgrund des Naturschutzes nur mit Bus oder Taxi erreichbar. Unser Tag begann deshalb schon früh mit dem Bus ab Takayama.

Nach einem Umstieg erreichten wir das Zentrum von Kamikōchi an der Kappa-Brücke. Mit Blick auf den Hotaka ist sie wohl der bekannteste und gleichzeitig belebteste Aussichtspunkt der Gegend.

Ohne uns vorher allzu viel zu informieren, machten wir uns einfach auf den Weg. Einer der Wanderwege führte uns auf rund sieben Kilometern am Fluss entlang, durch den Wald und vorbei an glasklaren Gewässern. Das Wasser war selbst Ende August noch erstaunlich kalt. Der Regenschirm war an dem Tag eher Sonnenschutz als Regenschutz.

Erst am Vortag wurde in der Gegend ein Schwarzbär gesichtet. Entsprechend hörte man überall die Bärenglocken der Wanderer, an einigen Stellen waren sogar fest installierte Glocken angebracht.

Die Landschaft erinnerte mich stellenweise an die Alpen in Europa, aber auch an Kanada. Mit vielen Fotos, ein paar neuen Stempeln und einem gelungenen Tagesausflug ging es am Nachmittag wieder zurück nach Takayama.

The Japanese Yosemite Valley, located in the Hida Mountains of the Japanese Alps. As it is protected Valley and only accessible by bus and taxi there are various starting points around the park as well as Matsumoto and Takayama.

Our start of the day by 6 am in the morning started with one of the buses from Takayama.
With another transfer into the national park we got off right in Center close to the Kappa-bashi brigde with its view of the mountain Hotaka. Which is I believe the main viewpoint and most busiest area. With a roughly 7km hike we got along the river, got a bit deep in the forest, saw different ponds with clear and clean water. Time by time there was a bear bell, just the day before a black bear was seen, many other hikers and visitor were wearing a bell for safety reason as well.

Happy with day-trip we returned back to Takayma with a lot of photos, new friends and new stamps. ;-)

上高地に行ってきた。高山からバスで向かい、一日中ハイキングを楽しみながら歩いてきた。透き通る川や山に囲まれた景色は、カナダで見た自然を思い出させてくれた。とても充実した一日になった。

Auf unserem Weg nach Takayama machten wir einen kurzen Stopp an der Burg Matsumoto. Kombiniert mit einem kurzen Besuch und Mittagessen verbrachten wir gut zwei Stunden in der Stadt. Da noch rund zwei Stunden Autofahrt vor uns lagen, blieb es bei einem kurzen Zwischenstopp.

A short stop at the black Matsumoto Castle. Combined with lunch, I had enough time to take a few photos before enjoying a yummy bowl of mazesoba. I chose as usual a mazesoba with Japanese curry.

高山へ行く途中で松本城に寄った。写真を撮って、カレーまぜそばを食べてから出発した。

Es kommt weiter Leben in das Dörfchen. Eine Izakaya, also eine japanische Bar, hat seit dieser Woche neu geöffnet. Da wir den Besitzer gut kennen, sind wir heute Abend mal hingegangen.

Neben Getränken gibt es auch typisch japanisches Oden zu bestellen – verschiedene Zutaten wie Ei, Daikon oder Konnyaku, die in einer würzigen Brühe gekocht werden. Außerdem stehen Udon auf der Speisekarte.

Ein weiterer Grund, darüber zu berichten, ist, dass ich das Logo der Bar gestalten durfte. Die Idee war es, das Holzambiente der Bar aufzugreifen und gleichzeitig ein modernes, ansprechendes und zeitloses Logo zu entwerfen. Ich freue mich, dass ihm mein Entwurf und die Umsetzung gefallen haben. Das fertige Logo nun selbst im Einsatz zu sehen, freut mich natürlich umso mehr.

A new traditional izakaya has opened in our small village. One of the old buildings along the onsen street was renovated and turned into a cozy wooden-style bar. As we know the owner, we stopped by to have a look and say hello.

Besides Japanese sake, highballs (a popular Japanese whisky mixed with soda water), whisky and beer, the menu also offers oden, a selection of ingredients slowly simmered in a savoury broth, as well as udon. Over time, the bar also plans to collaborate with different local shops and restaurants to bring in new ideas.

Another reason I wanted to write about it is that I had the opportunity to design the logo. The idea was to create something that reflects the warm wooden atmosphere while keeping it clean, modern and timeless. It’s always nice to see a design leave the computer screen and become part of a real place, and I’m happy the owner liked the final result.

小さな村に新しい居酒屋がオープンした。温泉街にある古い建物を改装して、木の雰囲気を生かしたバーになっている。日本酒やハイボール、ウイスキー、ビールなどのお酒だけでなく、おでんやうどんも食べられる。これからは、いろいろなお店やレストランとのコラボも予定しているみたいだ。

オーナーとは知り合いなので、オープンしたばかりのお店に行ってみた。実は今回、このお店のロゴをデザインする機会があった。木の温かい雰囲気に合いながらも、シンプルで今っぽいデザインを目指した。自分が作ったものが実際のお店で使われているのを見ると、やっぱりちょっと嬉しい。
