The usual christmas celebration is in Germany the Christmas Eve, together with your family you spend the night with a lot of food, most time some drinks and the gifts under the tree. Each family celebrates individual but we all have the same in common.

German Farmers Market
Seit ein paar Tagen ist es offiziell, ich bin ein Teil des Schwerter Wochenmarkt. Jeden Mittwoch und Samstag heisst es fuer mich nun weiter sehr frueh aufstehen, warm anziehen und mit anpacken.

Each Wednesday and Saturday is in my birth city a farmers market around the downtown district, since aprox. now three weeks I'm helping out to sell veggies and fruits.

Weniger bekannt in Nordamerika ist es hier daheim jedes Jahr ein kleines Ereignis neben Heiligabend und den zwei Weihnachtstagen. Wie auch die Jahre zuvor gab es eine Kleinigkeit im Schuh, sowie den obligatorischen Kartoffelsalat mit Bockwuerstchen.

As a tradition from back in time, each 6th of December we remembrance the Bishop from the roman empire. A common practice is to clean your boots and place some goods before the night on your front door, the next morning there should be filled with some fruits, candies and maybe a small gift.
We usually celebrate and remembrance the day with a small and easy dinner, my aunt, oncle and close friends are coming and we have a nice night together.
The Saint Nicholas day this year, is like the entire year unfortunately not as usual.

Christmas Cookies
Spritzgebaeck, Kekse und Haselnusskekse, alles an einem Nachmittag. Alle in meiner Familie haben mit angepackt und hatten auch viel Spass an der Sache. Lecker fuer mal zwischendurch sind sie auf jedenfall!

I tried my best to cut a maple leaf but I had not much patience. Together with family we made a small project, everyone where doing his best and pricked out all kind of cookie shapes.

Leben im Ueberfluss
Mit dem Arbeiten in einem kanadischen und deutschen Supermarkt bekommt man einen Ueberblick was es hier und dort alles gibt. Das Einkaufen selbst unterscheidet sich nicht all zu viel zwischen den beiden Laendern, nur die Auswahl an Artikeln ist hier in Deutschland wie im Schlaraffenland. Was einem beim einrauemen, wegraeumen und an Ware bestellen auffaellt was es alle doppelt und dreifach gibt ist echt schlimm. Im vergleich zum Sortiment in Kanada hatte man eine Auswahl von zwei oder drei Herstellern, dagegen hier daheim sind es gleich vier oder fuenf.
Zum Beispiel gibt es allein von Haribo 46 verschiedene Sorten.

With working now in a grocery in Canada as well in Germany I got an interesting view of the choice and quality of groceries. By comparing both countries with all kinda different stores are Canadian grocieres with less choice of an item but the stores have better customer service as well the choice of warm and fresh made food.
Stores back home are still a bit behind like less good customer service or missing of fresh made dishes, but the choice of items is overwhelming! While sorting and moving items I realized how many brands and types of the same items are available, less items would be definitely a good idea nobody need so much products.
As an example we have around 46 Haribo bags, who needs so many?!
